The Book of Mormon in 11 verses: A statistical svithe

The following is the Book of Mormon condensed to eleven verses, as determined by the number of times each verse has been cited in General Conference since 1942. (I was originally planning on doing the top ten, but then there was a tie at 10th place.)

1 Nephi 3:7

And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

2 Nephi 2:25

Adam fell that men might be; and men are, that they might have joy.

2 Nephi 31:20

Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.

Mosiah 3:19

For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father.

Mosiah 18:9

9 Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as witnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—

Alma 41:10

Do not suppose, because it has been spoken concerning restoration, that ye shall be restored from sin to happiness. Behold, I say unto you, wickedness never was happiness.

3 Nephi 27:27

And know ye that ye shall be judges of this people, according to the judgment which I shall give unto you, which shall be just. Therefore, what manner of men ought ye to be? Verily I say unto you, even as I am.

Moroni 7:47

But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

Moroni 10:4-5

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

Moroni 10:32

Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.

Wow, that's cool. Not the ones I expected either (though the 1st Nephi 3:7 was no surprise. Almost every other guy applying to be a seminary teacher uses it as his opening statement...which is beside the point).

If you were picking 10 (or, I guess, 11), which would you pick?

That's actually a pretty good indication of what we believe, in a nutshell. Although your 2 Ne. 31:20 seems to be talking about spices belonging particularly to God :)

CG - Well, the way I selected them makes it kind of an odd set. I wouldn't say that this was anyone's "top 10 list," because there's a bias against multiple scriptures that cover the same theme, since they could all be cited and thus lower the states of any single one of them. But it's still an interesting set.

confuzzled - I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about. ;)

That is so interesting! Is it possible to share the stats...as in how many times each was shared?
