They are all women.

That's quite astute! Can you be a bit more specific?

I try not to solve these with Google, but I figured that it was fair game after more than a week. And I think I figured it out: they are mothers of U.S. presidents.

Specifically, Victoria Josephine Moor married John Calvin Coolidge, and their son, John Calvin Coolidge, Jr., was better known as Calvin Coolidge, the 30th U.S. president.

Virginia Dell Cassidy married William Jefferson Blythe, Jr., with whom she had one son, William Jefferson Blythe, III. However, William Blythe, Jr. was killed in a car accident three months before little Bill's birth. When Virginia Cassidy married her second husband, Roger Clinton, her son took his stepfather's last name. Thus, it was William (Bill) Jefferson Clinton that became the 42nd U.S. President.

And finally, Bessie Lillian Gordy married James Earl Carter, and was better known as Lillian Gordy Carter. Their son, James (Jimmy) Earl Carter, Jr., was the 39th president.

Those were tricky, by the way, since two of them went by their middle name. Also, there is a secondary tribond: all three named their oldest sons after their husbands, since Coolidge, Carter and (initially) Clinton were "juniors."

Well, I'm glad it took me over a week to get back to this because you're right about the answer being mothers of presidents. (I didn't know about the "juniors" connection, though, so that's a bonus!)
