I don't get all the nuances, but I still think it's funny. Way to go.
(It's much funnier, for the record, than half-remembered jokes in Arabic.)
I'm only a novice cataloguing geek, but I think the first three are funny. I just don't get the references (no pun intended) for the last two.
You, madam, are hilarious. I'm more than enough of a geek to get cataloguing humour. Are these legit authorities or did you craft them yourself?
what about:
151 __ Planet of the Apes
451 __ Earth
I'm trying to think one up for The Village, but coming up blank.
Um, yeah, these are hilarious! I'm definitely going to show these to my unbearably passive-aggressive berkeley-phd-linguist of a boss in map collections. You just made creating records fun. (I mean *shifty eyes* more fun.)
n.b. Petra: The "berkeley-phd-linguist" isn't the unbearable part about him.
mfob - The last two are references to Fight Club and Soylent Green, respectively.
alea - I made them myself. (Fictional characters don't merit X00 treatment, to my knowledge -- they're X50s.) We were talking about subject headings as movie spoilers in my advanced cataloging class . . . but then we had to cut the discussion short because two of us hadn't seen the movie she was going to use as an example! Later, I realized that authority headings might be more flexible and humorous.
Also, I tried really hard to think of something for The Sixth Sense, but it wasn't working out.
mysh - I think I spent more time getting these to be accurate than I did working on my actual assignment. Misplaced priorities, perhaps?
.
Absolutely not.
